As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to serve and obey Him. But what does it really mean to be a servant? To be a true servant of Jesus Christ is to live a life that reflects His will and His love, rather than our own desires. Let’s take a closer look at the meaning of being a servant and how we can live out this calling in our daily lives.
Serving means putting others first and taking on responsibilities for them—not for the reward or recognition, but out of love and obedience to God. Serving also means doing whatever it takes to help someone else; even if it means sacrificing our own time, energy, or resources. We should not expect anything in return—we should be willing to serve without any expectation of getting something in return.
We all have opportunities every day to serve others through small acts of kindness and generosity. We can offer our time by helping those in need, visiting those who are sick or lonely, or volunteering at places where help is needed. We can also serve by giving financially when we see people in need, donating items that are no longer being used, or speaking up for those who have no voice. By serving others with humility and grace, we show the world what it looks like to follow Jesus Christ.
In order to live as servants of Jesus Christ, we must strive each day to become more like Him. This means seeking out activities that allow us to grow spiritually—reading scripture regularly, praying often, finding ways to share our faith with others—and actively engaging with our church family so that we can support one another in living out this calling. Finally, as servants of Jesus Christ, we must always remember that He loves us and is willing to forgive us when we make mistakes. Knowing this should give us strength and courage as we seek daily to please Him with our service and obedience.
Being a servant of Jesus Christ is an incredible honor and privilege! It means living out His will instead of our own desires; sacrificing ourselves for others; showing humility; seeking spiritual growth; engaging with other believers; and ultimately trusting that He loves us even when we make mistakes. May all of us strive each day to serve Him faithfully!
